Atlético Mineiro sporting director explains failed Lucas Torreira transfer

The Brazilian club's sporting director revealed that transfer talks were held for the Galatasaray midfielder.

Paulo Bracks, the Sporting Director for Brazilian Serie A club Atlético Mineiro, revealed that they held transfer talks for Galatasaray's 30-year-old Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira. Bracks explained that while an agreement had been reached with the player, the transfer was prevented by his contract with his club. According to the Sporting Director, a project was offered to Torreira that would have allowed him to be closer to his home country. Bracks also noted the transfer was very difficult to complete because the midfielder is a very high-level player at his current team.

Torreira's contract with his club runs until June 2028. The 40-cap Uruguay international has 1 goal and 3 assists in 19 Süper Lig appearances in the 2025/2026 season, and his current Transfermarkt market value is €12.00m. Other clubs linked with the player include Ajax and Boca Juniors.
