Following his departure from River Plate as a free agent, several clubs have shown interest in 39-year-old Argentine midfielder Enzo Pérez, with Argentinos Juniors reportedly being the leading contender. The club's coach, Nicolás Diez, confirmed that an approach had been made to the player's entourage. Speaking to DSports Radio, sporting director Raúl Sanzotti elaborated that they are in talks with Pérez and hope he will join them to help the team compete in 2026, though he lamented that their attempt at a private meeting was leaked.
Sanzotti stated that the potential transfer is more about the sporting project than finances, and he explained that Argentinos Juniors offers productivity-based contracts in addition to salaries to encourage competitiveness. Deportivo Maipú is also reportedly interested in signing the midfielder, and the decision on his future is now up to Pérez, who has 26 caps and one goal for Argentina. His market value is €150k, according to Transfermarkt.
