Ally McCoist said he would fully take Arsenal's 16-year-old English winger Max Dowman on loan at Ibrox, adding that he would have no problem with the move if Mikel Arteta felt it was best for the player's development. McCoist, who noted Dowman's recent brace against Ipswich Town, discussed the pros and cons of loan deals, recalling how he thought Phil Foden should have gone on loan, but staying at his club proved to be the right decision.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta had previously commented on the possibility of a loan for Dowman, sharing his own experience of going to PSG at 17 and stating that a loan's success depends on the atmosphere and the coach's belief in a player. However, Arteta concluded that Dowman is in a good situation and should be kept at Arsenal for now. The England U19 international, who has 10 caps and 2 goals, has a current Transfermarkt market value of €30.00m and has also been linked with Luton Town.
