Wout Weghorst Transfer from Ajax to FC Twente
According to FC Twente watcher and RTV Oost reporter Tijmen van Wissing, speaking on ESPN's 'Tekengeld', the likelihood of Dutch striker Wout Weghorst, 33, joining FC Twente next summer has increased, partly due to Erik ten Hag's appointment as technical director. The striker's contract with Ajax is expiring, and Voetbal International reports that he is expected to look for a new opportunity. Van Wissing noted that Weghorst was close to moving to the Enschede club two years ago, but the transfer did not proceed because of concrete interest from Ajax. This resulted in the player becoming unwelcome with the fanbase, though the reporter believes the club would quickly move past the issue. Van Wissing still sees opportunities for the transfer, stating it has always been one of Weghorst's greatest wishes and that the team could use his top-sport mentality. Weghorst has 49 caps and 14 goals for the Netherlands national team and has scored 6 goals in 14 Eredivisie appearances for Ajax this season. His current market value is estimated by Transfermarkt to be €3.50m.
