Benfica is interested in 33-year-old Dutch striker Wout Weghorst, whose contract in Amsterdam is expiring, which makes a free transfer in the summer a possibility. The striker is not guaranteed a starting place at Ajax under interim coach Oscar Garcia. In the 2025/2026 Eredivisie season, Wout Weghorst made 23 appearances, scoring 7 goals and providing 2 assists. FC Twente is also reportedly interested in Weghorst. The player has previously expressed a desire to play for them, but their coach, John van den Brom, has stated that nothing is currently happening. It is not known if Benfica has contacted the striker's entourage, but if a transfer to the club takes place, Weghorst could work with coach José Mourinho. Many other foreign clubs are also reported to be interested in Weghorst. The Netherlands international has earned 51 caps and scored 14 goals for his country. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is €2.50m.
