Corinthians approached Grêmio to sign 27-year-old Brazilian defender Wagner Leonardo, but the proposal was rejected due to the proposed terms. According to ESPN, executives Marcelo Paz and Paulo Pelaipe held discussions which did not proceed because Corinthians wanted a loan deal, whereas Grêmio was only interested in a permanent transfer. Grêmio has a financial obligation of around R$ 2 million to Vitória related to the defender's acquisition, according to ESPN. A potential return to Vitória was considered, which would have involved Grêmio retaining 50% of the player's economic rights, but those negotiations did not continue. Although Grêmio rejected the loan offer from Corinthians, a departure for Wagner Leonardo in the current transfer window is still considered a possibility. Wagner Leonardo joined Grêmio in February 2025 and has a contract with the club until the end of 2028. Transfermarkt estimates his market value to be €3.00m.
