Fiorentina has signed 21-year-old Brazilian defender Viery from Gremio for a fee of 17 million, inclusive of bonuses, which makes him the most expensive central defender in the club's history. The 2005-born player also had interest from Roma and Juventus in Italy. Abroad, there was interest from Benfica, Brighton, and Newcastle. Fabio Paratici was instrumental in the deal, having instructed his staff to follow the defender for two years. Viery is expected to arrive in Rome on the morning of Tuesday, June 30th, for his medicals, which are anticipated to take place in Florence. Viery joined Gremio in February 2025 and made 13 appearances in the current domestic league season, scoring one goal. His Transfermarkt market value is listed as €6.00m, and his Gremio contract included a reported €50 million release clause for foreign clubs.
