Flamengo director José Boto stated that he greatly admires Victor Froholdt, a 20-year-old midfielder for Porto, and that he has been following the Danish international since last year. Boto believes many players could potentially play for the club. He also expressed a desire to sign several individuals who are currently playing in Portugal, both Portuguese and foreign. Boto noted a challenge, explaining that Portuguese players do not yet see Brazil as a career destination, despite the very good salaries on offer. Froholdt has 12 caps and one goal for Denmark. He joined Porto in July 2025 and is contracted until 2030. His current market value on Transfermarkt is €50.00m. Froholdt has been linked with several Premier League clubs, including Liverpool and Manchester City. In August 2026, it was reported that Newcastle was prepared to meet his €85 million release clause. Reports from earlier in the summer suggested Porto might consider offers around €60 million. He transferred to Porto from FC Copenhagen in July 2025 for a reported fee of €20 million plus bonuses.
