Laola1.at reports that 18-year-old Austrian central midfielder Vasilije Markovic has decided to stay at Austria Wien despite interest from several clubs. Before this decision, Markovic considered several offers, including one from Red Bull Salzburg, which had a strong interest in signing him and offered significantly more money than the Vienna-based club. In addition to Salzburg's pursuit, Como, Basel, and Lugano also submitted offers for the player, and SK Sturm also attempted to sign him. Austria Wien officials convinced Markovic and his family to remain by presenting a development path. Markovic joined the club in February 2026, and his contract is valid until June 2029.
