Everton were among several Premier League clubs represented at the Ireland Under-21s match against England to observe 22-year-old Irish forward Tommy Lonergan, who scored twice in a 3-1 victory. Sunderland, Leeds United, Brentford, and Brighton were also in attendance at the game in Cork. Lonergan's form at Waterford, where he has scored 15 goals during 2026, has led to growing interest from clubs in England. The interest extends beyond the top flight, with a number of Championship clubs also monitoring the forward, who previously played for Fleetwood Town. Sources indicate that Lonergan is now being seriously considered by clubs ahead of the January transfer window. Lonergan, who has 9 caps and 4 goals for the Ireland U21s, joined Waterford in July 2025 and is under contract until November 2027, with a current Transfermarkt market value of €225k.
