During a promotion celebration, Energie Cottbus president Sebastian Lemke publicly offered a contract extension on stage to 34-year-old Turkish international Tolga Cigerci, for the defensive midfielder to stay with the club for another year as they move into the second division. Tolga Cigerci did not give a final response to the offer at that time. The midfielder joined the club in February 2026, and his current contract is set to expire on June 30, 2026. Cigerci has four caps for Türkiye and his current Transfermarkt market value is €150k.
