Thomas Müller leaving Vancouver Whitecaps?

Thomas Müller confirmed he will return for the 2026 MLS season. He had moved to Vancouver for the 2025 season with an option for 2026. Müller told Kicker that he would be giving his full effort. In 2025, he was on a salary of just over $1.4 million as a TAM player and is expected to fill a Designated Player slot in 2026. The Whitecaps have not yet confirmed this information.

Julian Nagelsmann, the German national team coach, responded enthusiastically to the idea of 36-year-old German forward Thomas Müller returning to the German national team in a technical staff role. Nagelsmann stated: "Thomas is absolutely a candidate for such a position. He has everything it takes to become a head coach. What is not the case now, may still come in the future." Nagelsmann also noted that Müller still has a contract in Canada until the end of 2026 and that his club would not be pleased if he left to become an assistant at Germany. Nagelsmann said: "He still has a contract in Vancouver until December 2026. As far as I know, they'll start training around June 26…" According to Transfermarkt, Müller has a current market value of €6.00m.
