Ronnie Edwards leaving Southampton?
According to West London Sport, a deal for Ronnie Edwards was agreed with Southampton last summer, but the owners, Sport Republic, intervened at a very late stage.
According to West London Sport, QPR have reached an agreement with Southampton to sign centre-back Ronnie Edwards on a permanent basis. A fee of £4.5m has been agreed for the 22-year-old's return to Loftus Road, just over a year after he first arrived on a half-season loan. The club had wanted to bring Edwards back in the summer but could not complete a deal. The defender is set to return following a decrease in his standing at St. Mary’s.
QPR have been urged to sign 22-year-old English Southampton defender Ronnie Edwards in the January transfer window. QPR boss Julien Stephan is keen to sign Ronnie Edwards during the January transfer window. There was discussion about a potential return to Loftus Road in the summer, but a transfer did not materialize, and QPR have been urged to sign Edwards this month. R's fan pundit, Louis Moir, said that he would not be surprised if the club had already made an offer to Southampton for Ronnie Edwards. Moir added that a deal seemed close to being completed last summer and that it appears Southampton are firm on their valuation. Moir also said it is frustrating because it sounds like Edwards wants to be a QPR player and wants to return. He further stated that Edwards is not even getting on the Southampton bench and believes he must become a QPR player this month, suggesting this could be a loan, a permanent deal, or a loan with an option for a permanent deal in the summer. Edwards is an England U21 international with two caps. He joined Southampton in July 2024 and has a contract until June 2028. His current market value, according to Transfermarkt, is €3.80m.
