Freiburg has officially announced the signing of Japanese midfielder Rihito Yamamoto from Sint-Truiden. The German club has not disclosed the financial details of the transfer or the duration of the contract. Klemens Hartenbach, Freiburg's sporting director, described Yamamoto as an extremely versatile midfielder and highlighted his progress in the last season. Yamamoto stated that playing in the Bundesliga had always been one of his main objectives and that he had gathered information about Freiburg from his compatriot Yuito Suzuki.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Rihito Yamamoto has signed a long-term contract with SC Freiburg. The central midfielder joins from St. Truiden for a fee of around €6-7m.
