Barcelona blocked the transfer of their 18-year-old reserve team midfielder, Quim Junyent, to second-division club Almería on the final day of the winter transfer window. The deal did not proceed when only a few details remained, despite Junyent having already reached a general agreement with Almería for a six-year contract. The Catalan club's management stopped the talks at the last minute after Almería did not accept the financial conditions and clauses demanded for the player's release. As an immediate move in January did not happen, Junyent is now expected to join Almería at the end of the season, leaving Barcelona as a free agent in the summer.
