Utrecht have announced that 39-year-old Moroccan midfielder Nordin Amrabat has joined the club. Amrabat joins Utrecht after leaving Wydad Casablanca this past summer. The former Watford and Hull City midfielder had been training with Utrecht to maintain fitness, and has now signed a one-year contract to play for the club if needed.

According to Voetbal International, Nordin Amrabat has joined FC Utrecht. The 39-year-old Moroccan will join on an amateur basis. For the past two weeks, Amrabat trained with the squad of coach Anthony Correia and made an impression that resulted in Correia definitively adding him to the team.

Nordin Amrabat, who has been without a club since leaving Wydad Casablanca on July 6, has been training with FC Utrecht for two weeks to maintain his fitness. The 39-year-old winger holds both Moroccan and Dutch citizenship. Anthony Correia stated that a contract offer is not yet under consideration because Amrabat has only recently joined the squad. Correia also suggested that an offer would not be an illogical future step and that the situation will become clearer in the coming weeks. He explained that Amrabat is training with the team because both the player and the club are open to a potential deal. A move to Utrecht would be a return to his birth country for the attacker, who has 64 caps and 7 goals for Morocco. His current Transfermarkt market value is €100k.
