Mitja Ilenič is set to join Raków Częstochowa. The move is considered a surprise because his name had not previously been linked with the club. The 21-year-old Slovenian right-back, who can also play as a wing-back, will join on loan from New York City until the end of the season, with the contract including a purchase option. Ilenič wanted to return to Europe last summer but a move was not completed. Now, the transfer appears to be finalized, and his New York club is reportedly preparing for the upcoming season without him. Ilenič has 18 caps for the Slovenia U21 team, joined the American club in January 2023 and his contract there runs until December 2026. His current Transfermarkt market value is €1.80m.
