Eintracht Frankfurt is one of ten European clubs monitoring Chicago Fire's 20-year-old South African central defender, Mbekezeli Mbokazi. The list of interested clubs also reportedly includes Club Brugge, Anderlecht, Ajax, Utrecht, Sassuolo, Rennes, Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest, and Real Betis. Interest in the player has intensified following his strong performances for South Africa at the World Cup. MLSsoccer.com described him as one of the tournament's revelations. Mbokazi joined the MLS club in December 2025 from Orlando Pirates for a fee of around $3 million. He holds a long-term contract until 2029 with an option for another year. This contract places Chicago Fire in a strong negotiating position with no pressure to sell. The defender has 14 caps and one goal for South Africa. In the 2025/2026 season, he made 12 appearances in Major League Soccer and 11 in the Betway Premiership. His current market value is €3.50m, according to Transfermarkt.
