According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Sassuolo is seeking to reinforce its midfield and Maurits Kjaergaard is included on the list of director of sports Francesco Palmieri. Maurits Kjaergaard is valued at 12 million. Sassuolo will have to overcome strong competition, including from Italian clubs, to secure the player.

Danish midfielder Maurits Kjaergaard, 22, is attracting interest from multiple Serie A clubs. The RB Salzburg player is liked by Sassuolo and Udinese, and Genoa also considers him an alternative midfield target. Kjaergaard joined Salzburg in July 2019 and is under contract until 2028. He contributed two goals and six assists in 20 league appearances during the 2025/2026 season and is yet to be capped for the senior Denmark national team. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is €8 million. Reports from January 2026 stated Red Bull Salzburg valued the midfielder at approximately €20 million, while an earlier report from August 2025 mentioned a €15 million demand.
