Liverpool and Manchester United are both monitoring Newcastle United's 24-year-old defender, Malick Thiaw, who also holds Finnish citizenship. According to a report from SportsBoom, the two clubs have been impressed by the German's performances and could attempt to sign him in the summer. Thiaw joined Newcastle for £30 million and is on a long-term contract, which places his current club in a strong negotiating position, and they have no pressure to sell. Newcastle, who want to keep their best players, are consequently expected to demand a high fee. Liverpool's interest is reportedly because of a need for defensive quality, as Ibrahima Konate's contract is set to expire and Joe Gomez has been linked with a move away. Manchester United are also considering him to add depth to their defence. Thiaw, who joined Newcastle on 12/08/2025, has 5 caps for Germany and has scored 4 goals in 23 Premier League appearances this season. Transfermarkt estimates his current market value at €40.00m. Before his move to England, a €25 million bid from Como 1907 had been accepted by his former club AC Milan, but the player rejected the move.
