Malick Fofana Transfer from Olympique Lyonnais to Arsenal
Malick Fofana was briefly linked with Arsenal as a potential emergency addition, but negotiations ended early. The Athletic offers a set of conflicting explanations. The $40.5 million (£30 million) that Lyon had been hoping to earn was reportedly an amount Arsenal could not afford, amid fears the club could have been in danger of breaching UEFA’s financial regulations. Arsenal, however, are thought to have cited technical reasons as an explanation. It is also argued that manager Mikel Arteta had concerns over Fofana’s physicality. The 5'7" winger missed five months of last season recovering from ankle surgery. His return lasted for 13 minutes across two appearances in March before he was sidelined for another six weeks.
