Brentford, along with Nottingham Forest and Sunderland, were interested in 26-year-old Netherlands international defender Lutsharel Geertruida, but the player was interested in a move to PSV. Geertruida was attracted by PSV's dominant, attacking style of play, the prospect of playing for trophies, and the Champions League platform, which he felt would benefit his national team chances. Ajax also became interested in the player, and was prepared to offer more money than PSV. While Geertruida's club, Leipzig, reportedly saw the Ajax proposal as an interesting option, the player did not consider it a desirable move and distanced himself from it. A brief interest from Feyenoord also did not proceed as the club lacked the financial resources after another transfer was not completed. The defender has a contract with RB Leipzig until June 2029, having joined the German side in August 2024. In August 2026, Leipzig's asking price for interested Dutch clubs was reportedly between €18 million and €20 million.
