Lucas Paquetá Transfer from West Ham United to Manchester United
Dean Jones told TEAMtalk that the rumours linking United and Lucas Paqueta are nonsensical and he is skeptical about why they would spend over £60 million on him in the near future. Jones believes the player is starting to become keen on a transfer and desires a new club and a larger contract. However, Paqueta does not align with what Jones understands United to be looking for and, so far, Jones has not heard of this being a deal they are pursuing in January.
Lucas Paquetá, a 28-year-old West Ham United playmaker, is reportedly eager for a transfer amid reports linking him to Old Trafford. The stated reason for this is to improve his chances of securing a regular spot in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad for the 2026 World Cup. Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, stated that a January exit for Paquetá is a concrete possibility if the right opportunity arises. Romano also clarified that he is not aware of any advanced negotiations between Manchester United and West Ham or the player's camp. Romano also added that West Ham would not sell Paquetá for a low price and that he would be an interesting signing for United. Manchester United's priority for the January window is a defensive midfielder, and the club views Paquetá as a secondary target for the summer. Paquetá's name is being discussed internally at Old Trafford as part of a long-term strategy under Amorim. Amorim reportedly admires the player's versatility. Manchester City are also monitoring Paquetá's situation. The club was close to signing the Brazilian last summer before a betting investigation occurred. The Brazilian international joined West Ham in August 2022, has 59 caps and 12 goals for his country, and has a current contract that runs until 2027. This season, Paquetá has scored 2 goals in 9 Premier League appearances. According to Transfermarkt, he has a market value of €35.00m.
