Hertha BSC would like to extend the expiring contract of Linus Gechter but is facing financial difficulties. In an interview with 'Bild', managing director Peter Görlich said that the question is always whether they are in a position to extend. He stated that Hertha are not in a position to extend with a premium, which is not a certainty in their situation. Görlich added that they will make every effort to act optimally in terms of sporting competitiveness, strategic squad planning, and value retention. He also described Linus as one of the important figures of the club and a top central defender whose quality is widely recognized. Görlich said they would like to keep him beyond the summer and will make every effort there as well. Whether this undertaking is realistic also depends on the outcome of the current season, as a possible promotion would help to expand the financial leeway.

The contract of Hertha BSC vice-captain Linus Gechter, a 22-year-old German, expires at the end of the season. Hertha wants to keep him. When asked whether talks about an extension are already underway, Linus Gechter responded that it was only the fifth matchday and that he was only concentrating on the game. In the last transfer window, coach Stefan Leitl declared the defender not for sale. The German U21 international, who has 5 caps, has a current market value of €3.50m according to Transfermarkt. Como has recently been linked with the player.
