Despite attracting interest from various clubs such as Hajduk Split, Lecce, Hellas Verona, Anderlecht, and Polish contenders Raków Częstochowa, Selahi was persuaded by the attractive offer and the chance to work again with coach Željko Sopić, under whom he had previously played at Rijeka. Selahi's move to Widzew was also influenced by the substantial financial resources of the club's new owner, which strengthened their position in the transfer market.
