Ko Itakura Transfer from Borussia Mönchengladbach to Feyenoord
Telegraaf.nl reports on Feyenoord's attempts to secure Ko Itakura's transfer amidst competition from Ajax. Feyenoord is making efforts to sign Ko Itakura, trying to outbid Ajax. Both clubs are negotiating with Borussia Mönchengladbach and Itakura himself, although salary demands may pose a challenge. Feyenoord's recent sales have increased their financial capacity, giving them an edge in negotiations.
Feyenoord is in urgent need of a central defender following David Hancko's move to Atletico Madrid and injuries to Thomas Beelen and Gernot Trauner. The club is competing with Ajax for Ko Itakura, a 28-year-old Japanese international who has expressed interest in returning to the Eredivisie, where he previously played on loan for FC Groningen. Ajax has reportedly been in contact with Itakura and his agent, Joel Pannick, for several months, engaging in discussions around the time of the World Cup qualifier between Japan and Indonesia. Ajax's potential advantage lies in their guaranteed spot in the Champions League group stage, which aligns with Itakura's aspirations to compete at the highest level. Nonetheless, Feyenoord is still a formidable contender in the race to sign Itakura. In addition to the Dutch rivals, Eintracht Frankfurt and PSV are also interested in the player. Itakura's contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach runs until June 2026, and his market value is estimated at €12.00m by Transfermarkt.
