Jagiellonia Białystok held advanced negotiations during the winter transfer window to sign 27-year-old winger and 35-time Croatia international Josip Brekalo as a replacement for Oskar Pietuszewski. The Polish club was close to reaching an agreement. Brekalo's club at the time, Real Oviedo, for whom he made 14 appearances without scoring in the 2025/2026 LaLiga season, was willing to release the player on a free transfer despite his existing contract. The transfer did not materialize because German second-division club Hertha BSC presented an offer and signed him on a contract until June 30, 2026. Transfermarkt estimates his current market value at €2.50m.
