According to Mundo Deportivo, Sporting has signed Jorge Sáenz on a free transfer. The 29-year-old Spanish central defender joined after his contract with Leganés concluded. The Asturian club made the signing official on Tuesday and confirmed that Sáenz has signed for the next two seasons. The defender passed his medical examination when he arrived in Gijón on Monday, prior to signing his contract. He is the second confirmed reinforcement for the club under its new coach, Nicolás Larcamón. The signing is in line with a publicly stated priority from executive president José Riestra, which was to add leadership and defensive experience. Borja Jiménez endorsed the negotiations with Sporting. Sáenz was a captain and a key player under Jiménez during Leganés' promotion-winning season. Sáenz joined Leganés in July 2023. He has four caps for the Spain U21 national team and made 13 appearances in the 25/26 LaLiga2 season. His current market value, according to Transfermarkt, is €800k.
