According to sources, Orlando City had an agreement in place with Holstein Kiel to sign 24-year-old United States left-back John Tolkin earlier in the transfer window. The deal, which had the player's approval, also included a component for Orlando to acquire Tolkin's discovery rights from St. Louis by sending Tahir Reid-Brown to them. Ultimately, the transfer did not proceed as Tolkin opted to remain in Germany, but Orlando still allowed a renegotiated deal for Reid-Brown to proceed with St. Louis. Tolkin, who has 10 caps for the United States, joined Holstein Kiel in January 2025 and is under contract until 2028. His current market value is listed as €2.50m by Transfermarkt.
