Scottish international centre-back John Souttar, 30, was made available for transfer by Rangers during the pre-season and attracted interest from clubs including Sheffield United and others in the UK. In September, he received an offer to join Cyprus League side Aris Limassol, but the move did not proceed because he demanded compensation from Rangers to leave. It was reported that Souttar refused to depart on loan or permanently without having his contract at Ibrox paid off, which created problems for his exit. According to Casper Widell, his own potential transfer to Rangers was contingent on Souttar first leaving the club to allow for a new signing. Souttar, who has 24 caps and two goals for Scotland, joined Rangers in July 2022 and his contract runs until May 2027. His current market value is estimated by Transfermarkt to be €1.50m.
