Fourth-division club Altglienicke has signed John Brooks, a former Hertha player and a 33-year-old German-American international, on a contract that runs until 2028. The defender, who played only one minute for Hertha in the last two years because of an injury, is expected to become the new defensive leader for the Berlin-based team. Michael Steiner, Altglienicke's sporting director, revealed that the club had been looking for a central defender with strength in the air, good tackling ability, and the capability to start attacks. Steiner considered it fortunate that a player with Brooks' experience matched this profile and was also a good personal fit. Steiner also added that Brooks had been observing the club for months before contract negotiations started. Brooks explained his decision was motivated by a wish to remain in his native Berlin and to find his enjoyment of football again, stating he was also attracted to the club's ambitions for promotion. The head of football, Torsten Mattuschka, praised Brooks' character, calling him hungry and honest. Mattuschka also noted the importance of a player who has scored in a World Cup wanting to be part of their club. His market value on Transfermarkt is currently €200k, and he was also linked with Energie Cottbus.
