Javier Aquino: Tigres UANL Contract Extension

According to Récord, Javier Aquino is departing from Tigres after a decade with the club. The 35-year-old player's contract has ended. He met with the Tigres management to accept a pay cut and renew for another year, but that proposal was never discussed and was never an option. There was no approach or discussion from the management or coaching staff to propose a renewal. The club always thought that the cycle would end as stipulated in his contract and there would be no renewal. Tigres thanked him for the decade he spent at the club. Javier Aquino announced on social media that he is leaving Tigres, stating that he is not going to be in a place where he is not wanted.

Carlos Ponce de León reports that Tigres and 35-year-old Mexican right-back Javier Aquino are in talks for a contract renewal. The offer is for only one more tournament, Clausura 2026, and includes no salary increase. In six months, Javier Aquino would need to find another club. Aquino has been with Tigres since July 2015 and has earned 54 caps for Mexico. In the current Liga MX Apertura season, he has made 16 appearances, providing 2 assists. Transfermarkt estimates his market value to be €500k.
