Ajax has identified Celta de Vigo midfielder Ilaix Moriba as a transfer target as the summer window approaches its conclusion. A report suggests that Ajax's coach, Michel González, and technical director, Jordi Cruijff, are searching for players who fit the coach's style of play. Moriba, a 23-year-old Guinean international, is one of two names the Amsterdam club finds particularly appealing. He previously left FC Barcelona for RB Leipzig in 2021, and following loan spells at Valencia, Getafe, and Celta, he was permanently acquired by the Spanish club for six million euros in mid-2025. It has also been reported that Ajax has been in negotiations for months to complete the signing. Moriba has 25 caps for his country, is under contract at Celta until 2029, and has a current market value of €15 million according to Transfermarkt. In addition to Ajax, Beşiktaş has also been recently linked with the player. Recent reports from August 2026 state that Celta de Vigo was demanding €15 million from Beşiktaş and was also hoping for a sale closer to €20 million.
