According to Bild, Bayer Leverkusen considered Equi Fernández a sale candidate following a disappointing first season. The matter was resolved quickly during the last transfer window because Fernández had a strong pre-season and secured a place in the starting eleven under new coach Carles Martínez.

Bild reports that a European top club is interested in Equi Fernández, an Argentinian player for Bayer Leverkusen.

Argentinian defensive midfielder Ezequiel Fernández, 23, is mentioned as a possible departure from Bayer Leverkusen this summer. Simon Rolfes, Bayer Leverkusen's Geschäftsführer Sport, stated that there is no question there will be more changes, that they will let players go and bring in new ones, and that it is always important to create new competitive situations. Fernández joined Leverkusen in September 2025 and has a contract until June 30, 2030. In the 2025/2026 Bundesliga season, he made 20 appearances, providing one assist. He has yet to be capped by the Argentinian national team. His current Transfermarkt market value is €20.00m.
