Frankie Maguire, a 22-year-old English attacking midfielder and former Sheffield United trainee, will join York City from July 1 as the club prepares for its return to League Two. He is their second summer signing after Mark Shelton's recent arrival from Barnet. Maguire joins after two seasons with Boston United, where he made 76 appearances and scored 15 goals; in the 2025/2026 National League season, he made 27 appearances, contributing 7 goals and 9 assists. Because he is under the age of 24 and was offered terms of re-engagement by Boston, the clubs are in talks over a compensation package. York have confirmed the midfielder will join them when his Boston contract expires, but if an agreement on a fee cannot be reached, the matter will be settled by an FA tribunal.
