A Czech publication reported that Panathinaikos is in discussions with Viktoria Plzen to acquire Florian Wiegele.

Florian Wiegele is being considered as a candidate by Panathinaikos, who have appointed a new coach and are seeking to strengthen their goalkeeper position. The club considers the Austrian international a high-priority target, being familiar with him from Europa League matches when he played for Viktoria Plzen. The 2.05m tall goalkeeper reportedly made a very strong impression on Panathinaikos. The club believes the 25-year-old has all the necessary attributes to become their starting keeper and also has significant resale value. However, the deal is not considered simple, partly because Wiegele will be with the Austria national team at the upcoming World Cup. Strong competition to sign him could emerge, depending on his appearances at the tournament. Developments in the matter are expected in the near future. Wiegele has one cap for his country. He joined the Czech club in July 2024, and his contract runs until June 30, 2029. His current market value is estimated by Transfermarkt at €2.20m.
