Erik Lamela leaving AEK Athens?
Argentinian forward Érik Lamela, aged 33, has officially left AEK Athens after both parties came to a mutual agreement to terminate his contract, which still had two years remaining. It was reported that Lamela was not in coach Marko Nikolić's plans and faced challenges in training consistently due to injuries. During his one-year stint with AEK, he played in 31 matches, netted 6 goals, and provided 3 assists. His exit will relieve AEK's financial burden, as he was due to earn 2.5 million euros annually for the next two years but will now receive only a portion of that sum. Transfermarkt has valued the winger at €1.20 million, and he has been associated with possible moves to Turkish clubs Beşiktaş and Galatasaray, as well as a potential return to his former team, River Plate.
