Santos Laguna announced that Efraín Oroná has joined the club as a free agent from Puebla. The move comes a month before the start of the Clausura 2026. Oroná is a 26-year-old Mexican centre-back who was a regular starter for Puebla in the Apertura 2025. According to sources close to Puebla, he left the team because his performance was not what was expected. Oroná joined Puebla in July 2023. He was seen at the club's facilities and was announced as the new signing after passing his physical tests. Oroná is one of the first players signed to reinforce the defense. Coach Francisco Rodríguez has identified strengthening the defense as a priority. Santos plans for Oroná not to be the only defensive addition and expects to bring in at least two more players for the backline. According to Transfermarkt, the player's current market value is €1.20m.
