Centre-back Dynel Simeu has signed for The New Saints, joining the club a month after being made a free agent by Oldham Athletic. The 24-year-old, who has English and Cameroonian nationality, developed in the academies of Chelsea and Southampton. His signing follows a period where he helped Oldham secure a tenth-place finish in EFL League Two, contributing 2 goals in 11 league appearances. Southampton had previously paid a fee of £1.5m to sign him from Chelsea in 2021. The New Saints head coach, Craig Harrison, stated that strengthening the defence was a priority. Harrison added that he had been impressed after monitoring Simeu at Oldham and described him as a powerful defender with pace who is comfortable on the ball. The transfer provides Simeu with the opportunity to play in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers after TNS's Cymru Premier win. After the transfer was completed, the former England youth international stated he was delighted to join a club with a fantastic reputation and was determined to contribute to their ambitions. His current market value is estimated by Transfermarkt to be €150k.
