According to Nicolo Schira, Atalanta is attempting to overtake Torino in the race for Spezia's young goalkeeper Diego Mascardi, who was born in 2006. Torino has an agreement in principle with Spezia for a €1.8 million fee and also holds a similar agreement with Mascardi for a contract until 2030. Despite this, Atalanta is positioned to offer a higher transfer fee to secure the player. Mascardi, an Italy U21 international, joined Spezia in July 2024 and his current contract expires in June 2028. He made 17 appearances in Serie B during the 2025/2026 season. His Transfermarkt market value is €1.30m. Reports from June 2026 indicated that Spezia's initial asking price was between €2 million and €2.5 million.
