Palmeiras considered Diego Carlos, a 32-year-old Brazilian-Spanish defender, as one of at least three defenders with experience playing for the Brazilian national team that the club considered before making another player a priority. Carlos, who was called up by Tite during the 2022 World Cup cycle, played at Sevilla in Spain before suffering a serious injury with Aston Villa in England. He currently plays for Como in Italy on loan from Turkish club Fenerbahce. In the current Serie A season, he has made 16 appearances. His contract with Fenerbahce expires in June 2026 and his current Transfermarkt market value is €8.50m. LOSC Lille has also been mentioned in connection with the player.
