Sassuolo is reportedly considering Olympique Marseille's 28-year-old Canadian international centre-back, Derek Cornelius, as a reinforcement for their defense. Sassuolo is among the clubs interested in the player. Lecce has also been linked with Cornelius, although their interest is said to be less serious, and Genoa was reportedly associated with him in previous weeks. Sassuolo is considering a move more concretely but has not yet started formal negotiations with Olympique Marseille. It is also reported that Marseille is open to a deal structured as an initial loan with an option to buy. Cornelius has 48 caps for Canada. He joined Marseille in August 2024 and made 23 appearances in Ligue 1 last season. His contract with the French club runs until 2028. His current market value is estimated by Transfermarkt to be €2.50m.
