César Tárrega Transfer from Valencia to Sunderland
In an effort to bolster their defence this summer, Sunderland attempted to acquire Valencia’s promising centre-back, Cesar Tárrega. The club reportedly submitted an offer of around £17 million for the 23-year-old. Despite the significant bid, Tárrega opted to stay at Valencia and recently signed a new contract with the Spanish team. AS Roma also expressed interest in Tárrega, underscoring his reputation as a rising defensive talent. Sunderland’s failure to secure Tárrega has led the club to intensify its search for other defensive options as they gear up for the Premier League season. Manager Regis Le Bris has reportedly prioritized signing a central defender before the transfer window closes. Tárrega, who made 34 league appearances for Valencia last season, was seen as potentially strengthening Sunderland’s defence with his proven strength, positional awareness, and technical skills in La Liga. Despite the setback, Sunderland is now tasked with identifying other targets to enhance their squad.
