Derby County and fellow Championship club Burnley were among several teams from across Europe that explored signing free agent Bamba Dieng. The 26-year-old Senegalese striker became available after his contract with Ligue 1 side Lorient expired in the summer. A significant issue for the English clubs was Dieng's reluctance to commit to Championship football. Both Derby and Burnley continued to monitor the situation while the player's immediate focus was on representing Senegal at the World Cup. Saudi club Al-Shabab also attempted to sign the international, who has 24 caps and 2 goals for his country, but was unable to complete a move after failing to get authorisation for the necessary investment. Derby now appear unlikely to sign Dieng, as he is close to signing for Turkish club Amed SK.
