Alejo Sarco has moved to Sporting Gijón, a team in the Spanish second division. Bayer Leverkusen have announced that they retain a buy-back option for the 20-year-old Argentinian. Sporting director Simon Rolfes said that Sarco did not get the expected playing time during his one and a half years at Leverkusen and that the move to Spain gives him the chance to gain important minutes.

Argentine centre-forward Alejo Sarco, 20, has moved from Bayer Leverkusen to Sporting Gijón on a one-year loan which includes a purchase option. He had joined Leverkusen in January 2025 on a free transfer from Vélez Sarsfield. During part of the 2025/2026 season, he was on loan at Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he made 6 Bundesliga appearances and scored 2 goals in 5 games in the Regionalliga West. Sarco has 7 caps and 4 goals for Argentina U20. His contract with Leverkusen runs until June 2029. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is €2.00m. Reports from earlier in July 2026 indicated Bayer Leverkusen was demanding five million euros for the player.
