According to journalist Alan Nixon on his Patreon page, West Brom winger Akeel Higgins is set to join Wigan Athletic on a permanent basis this summer. Nixon's report also claimed that West Brom will insert a sell-on clause into the deal, which would entitle them to a percentage of any future transfer fee. The 20-year-old English attacker spent last season on loan at Exeter City in the same division and is expected to reunite with his former manager from that spell, Gary Caldwell, at the League One side. The move is anticipated to give Higgins more regular playing time, as he has become a lower priority for selection at West Brom. Higgins joined the club in July 2023 and has a contract that runs until June 2026; his current Transfermarkt market value is €175k.
