Nils Koppen, West Ham United's new director of player recruitment, may recommend Rangers' 29-year-old Scottish centre-half John Souttar to head coach Nuno, based on his knowledge of the player from his time at Ibrox. Souttar is a Scotland international who is described as a siege defender with deep European experience. Leicester City is also currently interested in the player, and several other clubs, including Watford, Sheffield United and Cardiff City, have also been linked with him.

Souttar joined Rangers in July 2022 and his contract runs until May 2027. In July 2026, Rangers were reportedly seeking a seven-figure fee for the player. His market value is listed by Transfermarkt at €2.0 million.
