West Ham inquired about Seko Fofana but did not follow up

The Ivorian midfielder's future is uncertain after several clubs made inquiries about a potential transfer.

West Ham made inquiries about Seko Fofana, a 30-year-old Ivorian international, a few weeks ago but did not follow up on their interest. FC Porto and Benfica have also inquired about a potential loan for the midfielder. Fofana, who is under contract until 2029, lost his starting position in the autumn and has recently been left out of the squad for the match against Lorient, a decision that could indicate a departure.

The player was injured while on international duty during the November break but has since returned from the Africa Cup of Nations, coming on as a substitute against Le Havre last weekend. While Fofana did not originally intend to leave at the start of the transfer window, his immediate future at Rennes is now uncertain. The central midfielder has earned 30 caps and scored 7 goals for Ivory Coast. In the 2025/2026 Ligue 1 season, he has made 12 appearances, scoring one goal. Rennes signed Fofana from Al Nassr in January 2025 for a reported €20 million, and his current Transfermarkt market value is €8.00m.
