Tarek Sebiat, a European representative for the StayPro agency, met with Valencia's sporting director, Braulio Vázquez, at the club's training ground. The meeting has resulted in attention being focused on Edson Álvarez, a 28-year-old Mexican international who is open to a move in the January transfer window because his season at West Ham is not meeting his aspirations. The player, who has 103 caps and 7 goals for his country and can operate as a centre-back or a defensive midfielder, has only played in one EFL Cup match this year and has not been included in the squad for any of the nine Championship games.

Álvarez has a contract with West Ham until 2028, having joined from Ajax in 2023 for a €38 million fee. A deal with Valencia is considered feasible, mainly because it could be a loan, which would not require a transfer payment and could involve a six-month contract matching the term of manager Javier Aguirre. In recent years, West Ham has previously accepted a loan deal for the Mexican player to Fenerbahçe. His current market value is estimated by Transfermarkt to be €12.00m, and several other clubs, including Ajax and Olympiakos, have also been recently linked with him. In mid-2026, West Ham's asking price was reportedly between €14m-€15m, while Fenerbahçe reportedly declined a €22m purchase option on the player in January 2026.
