Toronto make contact with Norwich City for Josh Sargent

The MLS side has made contact regarding a January transfer for the 25-year-old centre-forward.

Toronto have made contact with Norwich City regarding a January transfer for 25-year-old centre-forward Josh Sargent, who declared himself unavailable for his club's FA Cup match against Walsall. Manager Philippe Clement revealed that Sargent sent him a message stating he could not play because of transfer-related matters on his mind. The MLS side made an $18m bid for the player, with talks between the clubs continuing. Despite the developments, Clement has stated that Sargent will not leave during this transfer window, a stance he says has been made clear to the player and his agent.

Premier League side Burnley are also known to be interested in the American, while Bundesliga club Wolfsburg were reportedly close to agreeing a fee over £20m in the summer before Sargent chose to stay. Sargent, who joined Norwich in August 2021, has a contract with the club until June 2028 and has scored 3 goals in 7 Championship appearances this season. The United States international has earned 29 caps, scoring 5 goals for his country, and has a current Transfermarkt market value of €20.00m.
